Attorney McDonald's Story

Attorney McDonald’s story begins before he was old enough to remember it—shaped by legacy, loss, and an unrelenting commitment to purpose.

His father was raised in the streets of Flint, Michigan, but rose above his circumstances to become a respected and prominent attorney on Flint’s north side. His mother grew up in Tuskegee, Alabama, as the great-granddaughter of Booker T. Washington, carrying forward a generational belief in education, discipline, and self-reliance. Together, they built a family of three children, with Attorney McDonald being the youngest.

Tragedy struck early. When Attorney McDonald was just seven months old, his father passed away. Though he has no personal memories of him, his father’s name, reputation, and unfinished journey cast a powerful and enduring shadow throughout his upbringing.

After his father’s death, his mother raised three children as a single parent, and the family struggled through poverty. The surrounding environment was unforgiving. During the 1980s, crack cocaine devastated the community. In the 1990s, gang warfare followed. Violence, instability, and scarcity were ever-present. Yet inside the home, Attorney McDonald was grounded in something far stronger. His mother instilled in him the teachings of Booker T. Washington and emphasized the value of education, resilience, and character as the true path forward.

Those lessons never left him—and neither did his connection to his community.

Attorney McDonald went on to attend Grand Valley State University, where he earned his degree in Economics and pledged Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., embracing a lifelong commitment to achievement, service, and leadership. He later earned a Master’s degree in Economics from Fordham University and his Juris Doctor from Howard University School of Law.

Following law school, he clerked for the District of Columbia Court of Appeals under Chief Judge Eric T. Washington, gaining invaluable insight into appellate advocacy and judicial decision-making at the highest level. He then trained under renowned trial attorney Brian K. McDaniel, later joining him at the Cochran Firm before ultimately founding his own practice.

For years, Attorney McDonald dedicated himself to representing indigent criminal defendants—standing beside those with the least power and the greatest need. He has tried hundreds of cases and handled thousands of legal matters, earning real-world experience forged in courtrooms, not theory. Alongside his practice, he committed himself to shaping future lawyers, serving as a professor at Howard University School of Law and previously at the City University of New York School of Law.

Today, Attorney McDonald brings together every chapter of his life—his upbringing, his education, his appellate training, his trial experience, and his work as an educator—to advocate for clients in civil rights and personal injury matters. He has never forgotten where he came from, and his work reflects a deep understanding of both the law and the lived realities of the people it is meant to protect.

If you are seeking an attorney who brings experience, integrity, and a lifelong commitment to justice to every case, Attorney McDonald stands ready to fight for you.
